For being a greate computer programmer... what should be the path of my learning.?
do basic tutorials on the web to get a feel. i would recommend java first because it is more structured than c/c++ and forces you to use good design patterns (basically object oriented programming) and there are HEAPS of good books on it. just go to any book shop and there will be dozens of good resources on java.
c/c++ are more useful for low level programming, but most programmers these days are moving into c# and other object oriented languages due to its more agile nature, but c/c++ are still very very widely used (perhaps in the majority? not sure).
but yeah learn java for a start since there is heaps of online documentation and great books, then perhaps c# which is very similar to java. once you can write good programs in java then think about moving into c/c++, but probably do a course of some kind for that because it is much more technical. in fact do a course on programming full stop if you want to be a great programmer. nothing beats a uni degree!
Reply:Being a good programmer has less to do with the number of programming languages you know; indeed, it's more about the logic and problem solving techniques; that requires a clear mind and logic.
Take for instance English; you could learn the syntax (Grammer), but it doesn't end the journey; when being asked about writing an English sentence which should for instance summarize a company's business concept and future plans and sell good in the market and this sentence should not contain more than 3 words; then here comes the good implementation of the knowledge domain! knowing the syntax is not enough!
Same applies to programming languages you could learn the syntax in no time, but when being asked to solve a problem, then your logic translates the existing knowledge you have using the syntax into a meaningful code which should solve a problem;
Don't care much at the beginning with which language to start with as much you should care about deeply learn the problem solving techniques and algorithms; in fact, I prefer starting with C for one reason; it's one of the most strictest languages that will force you to depend more on your self; in contradiction to Ruby, one of the most flexible ones I've seen; you should learn Ruby later on after you have built a strong programming concept.

Reply:I would invest in some programming books from the store adn work on self-education. Try to learn what you can by writing your own code and designing applicaitons.
Reply:Learn some networking and TCP/IP then go into C++
Reply:If you want a Cheap path to getting acquainted with these languages, look at 599cd.com to get some Excellent CD Tutorials at Cheap prices
After you get acquainted, you can make some informed decisions. I would strongly suggest looking into Visual Studio 2005 as an option, since it combines many languages
Reply:what are you trying to spell!!!!!
