Reply:Typically, employers require an AA OR BA degree, and you must be decent to good in C/C++, JAVA, sometimes COBOL/FORTRAN or other languages, and it is usually advised you know Windows, Excel, and/or other popular Windows Software. A lot of employers also want a programmer to know .NET and/or Linux/Unix as well!
Reply:You need to know, how to solve a problem and how to design it. And none other than Syntax of the Language you are using.
Reply:Myself and a colleague have both managed to get jobs as java games programmers without going through the traditional route of getting a computing degree (I have a degree in Archaeology of all things instead :P ). This may be in part to luck but from my experience employers value knowledge and experience over qualifications so get programming and have some examples to show them.
